Hello,
I'm not sure if current functionality allows for this. Would it be difficult to implement background color styling for the text itself and not the whole cell? Like a highlight in Excel/Word.

You can use RichText. https://reogrid.net/document/rich-format-text
The last argument of SetStyles method is text background color.
This is a Pro feature in old version, you have to download the latest version or build from source code.
